Injury and Pain Assessment

IMG_20180507_084510_071.jpg

During your initial consultation we want to get to know you. We will ask you a range of questions and have a discussion about a number of factors which could be affecting or linked to your pain or injury such as;

  • Personal Information such as (activity, reason for booking an appointment, goals and your "why")

  • Internal/External Stressors

  • Previous Medical History (Injuries, Operations, Medical Conditions)

  • Present Injury/Pain

Once we have completed our initial consultation (roughly 15-20 minutes) we will then proceed to assess the injury or pain you are experiencing. We will assess how you move and observe any pain or restrictions during movement. We will assess your strength and then we will look at specific tests relevant to the symptoms you are presenting with during the consultation.

We pride ourselves on making sure our patients have a clear and effective explanation, in regards to our findings during the assessment, and will really take the time to go through this with you so you can understand. By discussing this clearly with you we can then design a tailored and specific plan for your injury/pain, your needs and your wants.

Sports Massage & Deep/Soft Tissue Massage

Massage treatment is suitable for everyone and can be tailored and adapted to your requirements and preferences with massage treatments. Sports Massage has been a popular treatment for many years, you may now see massage referred to as Soft Tissue Massage or Deep Tissue Massage.

Sports Massage is not just for sports people, we want to make our patients are aware that there are many benefits to massage treatment and that it can help with a range of problems and conditions from chronic injuries, to muscular tension, aches and pains. Our massage treatments will be tailored to you following our initial consultation where we will determine what areas of pain or tension you are suffering with. We will assess to identify what contributing factors could be affecting your current problem, determine what demands your body requires for day to day living or sporting performance and then apply the most appropriate treatment to you.

Rhianne is also qualified in Dry Cupping, a treatment technique which can be combined with other massage treatments. Please see our Blog Page on the benefits of Myofascial Cupping and how it can help you.

Pre and Post Operative Rehabilitation

Have you been told that you may have to have surgery for a current injury you are suffering with, for example: hip replacement, knee replacement, ACL reconstruction. These are major operations and it is vital that your body is prepared for this. Exercises and specific rehabilitation to build up the muscles ahead of an operation can have very beneficial effects on post-operative recovery.

Following operations it is very important that you understand what procedure you have had done and what structures have been operated on. Having this knowledge will allow you to have an understanding during your rehabilitation and is important for your post-operative recovery.

We understand that post-operative rehabilitation can be a daunting process as some patients will be slightly anxious to start working on their movement and strength. We want to reassure you that we will work with you to design a personal and tailored approach to your post-surgery rehabilitation specific to the stage of recovery you are in.

received_836984223383589.jpeg

Educational, interactive and practical sessions/seminars for your specific athlete, sport, team, organisation or for general injury prevention knowledge for corporate groups. There are so many topics which are really important for not only athletes and coaches to understand but also for parents to know how manage their children who partake in certain activities. Within the corporate sector it is important to make sure that all workers understand desk health, desk height and set up to reduce the risk of pain and tension when at work.

We have previously provided injury prevention workshops to the Wiltshire Netball Academy focussing on Activation and the importance of Jumping and Landing safely in Netball to reduce injury risk. We have also provided a number of Concussion workshops to the Dorset and Wilts RFU organisation, within all of their boys age groups, to make sure players, coaches and parents are up to date with concussion protocols and where to get help or support when having to manage a player with concussion. We also make sure that players complete relevant RFU courses to check understanding and this can be also done by parents and coaches.
